ਮੂਰਖ ਪੱਥਰ ਹੈ ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਸੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The fool is a stone; he remains adamant in any company

ਪਾਰਸ ਪਥਰ ਸੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸਿ ਨ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ।
Ordinary stone may be in contact with the philosopher's stone, but it does not get transformed into gold.

ਹੀਰੇ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਪਥਰਹੁ ਪਥਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੋਵੈ।
Diamonds and rubies are extracted from the stones but the latter cannot be stringed as a necklace.

ਵਟਿ ਜਵਾਹਰੁ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਵਿਕਾਇ ਸਮੋਵੈ।
The jewels are weighed with weights but the latter cannot equate in value with the jewels.
 

ਪਥਰ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅਸਟਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਸੁਵੰਨ ਅਲੋਵੈ।
Eight metals (alloys) remain amidst stones but they convert into gold by the touch of philosopher's stone alone.

ਪਥਰੁ ਫਟਕ ਝਲਕਣਾ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਗੋਵੈ।
Crystal stone shines in many colours but still remains a mere stone.

ਪਥਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਸਾਉ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰ ਹੋਇ ਆਪੁ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ।
Stone has neither fragrance nor taste; the hard-hearted one simply destroys itself.

ਕਰਿ ਮੂਰਖਾਈ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਰੋਵੈ ॥੭॥
The foolish goes on lamenting his own stupidity.

ਨੋਟ: ਇਹ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਾ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੁੜ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਝਾਤੀ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਫਰੀਦ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਣ "ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਅਕਲਿ ਲਤੀਫੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਲਿਖੁ ਨ ਲੇਖ ॥ ਆਪਨੜੇ ਗਿਰੀਵਾਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ॥" ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਵਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਖਾਦੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਥਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਸਰ ਉਥੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਦਰਦ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਕਲੀਫ ਹੋਵੇ। ਤੇ ਜੇ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ।
