ਡੱਡੂ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼-ਮਨਮੁਖ
Manmukh, the mind oriented and frog are identical

ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਵਲ ਫੁਲੰਦੇ।
It is a pond full of pure and fine water wherein the lotuses blossom.

ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਤਿ ਗੰਧ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਹੋਇ ਮਹਿਕੰਦੇ।
Lotuses are of beautiful form and they make the environment fragrant.

ਭਵਰਾਂ ਵਾਸਾ ਵੰਝ ਵਣਿ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੰਦੇ।
Black bees live in bamboo forest but they somehow search and get the lotus.

ਲੋਭ ਲੁਭਤਿ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
With the sunrise, they come attracted from far and wide and meet the lotus.

ਸੂਰਜੁ ਗਗਨਿ ਉਦੋਤ ਹੋਇ ਸਰਵਰ ਕਵਲ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰੰਦੇ।
With the sunrise, the lotuses of the pond also turn their faces toward the sun.

ਡੱਡੂ ਚਿਕੜਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਕਵਲ ਸਿਞਾਣਿ ਨ ਮਾਣਿ ਸਕੰਦੇ।
Frond lives in the nearby mire close to the lotus but not understanding the real delight it cannot enjoy like lotus.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਨ ਰਹਤ ਰਹੰਦੇ।
Those unfortunate persons who listening to the teachings of the Guru in the holy congregation do not adopt them.

ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੨॥
They are most unfortunate in life like the frogs.

ਨੋਟ: ਇਹ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਾ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੁੜ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਝਾਤੀ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਫਰੀਦ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਣ "ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਅਕਲਿ ਲਤੀਫੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਲਿਖੁ ਨ ਲੇਖ ॥ ਆਪਨੜੇ ਗਿਰੀਵਾਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ॥" ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਵਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਖਾਦੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਥਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਸਰ ਉਥੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਦਰਦ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਕਲੀਫ ਹੋਵੇ। ਤੇ ਜੇ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ।
